THA 342 - Sound Design
Radio Story Project
Voice of: Avalon Nelson

In this project in sound design, we were asked to choose a poem or short story to record and create a soundscape for. This included recording the voice-over using any means we had available and then using Audacity to layer in sound effects. We recorded the voice using just a phone camera. I added a variety of sound effects of different types of bells to fit the lyrics of the poem; in addition, I added animal sounds such as birds chirping and owls screeching to add to the atmosphere.
Cinema Sound Project

For one of the larger projects in THA 342, we were given short clips from a movie with the sound removed from it. We used QLab to play the video as well as sound effects that we added to the video. For my project, I chose to do a brief action/chase scene which ended in a large car crash.
I mixed all of the car sound effects using the built-in settings in QLab rather than pre-mixing them into one track in Audacity, but the car sequence included an ignition, shifting into drive, and then accelerating, in addition to a few more sound effects.

Other sound effects I chose included a fast-pace piece for background music and the sound of a man running on pavement.
