In this project, we as a group were tasked with choosing a still image to use as a reference and attempting to recreate the lighting in that image using fixtures we had available and techniques learned in class.
We chose to recreate an image of a trumpet against an off-white colored wall. At first, we thought we would only need a warm-colored side light to produce the desired effect, but we discovered that we also needed a warm-colored front light coming from almost directly above the trumpet. For the side light we used a Source Four and for the front light we used a PARNel.

Final Project - Lighting Design for a Song
For our final project, we each had to choose a song and do the lighting design as if a group were performing this song on the stage in the Toland Theatre. I chose to do the song "Big Bang Theory Theme" by the Barenaked Ladies as I felt it would be a good challenge for me. As part of this project, we would go through the whole research and paperwork process as one would in a traditional lighting design.

Concept Statement:
One of the main things I want to convey with the lighting design for this song is a feeling that it takes place mainly in outer space, shifting the light to a feeling of earth where appropriate. With this, I foresee a main color scheme of purples, blues, and deep reds with cool front light for the outer space, and a secondary color scheme of ambers and greens with warm front light for the earth.
In addition, because the song is so fast-paced, I do not want to stay in any one lighting cue for too long; I want the lights to be constantly evolving and changing to assist with the tempo and fast-paced plot of the song.
Finally, I want to use some system of light to emulate a bang every time the music calls for it; this will most likely be a combination of a flash of front light and top light.
Cue List

Although I could have made every cue an auto-follow cue due to the nature of the project, I wanted to give myself more control over the timing of the cues. This way, I was able to feel out the music more. I still had some auto-follow cues of bright flashes of single lights to the beat of the music, such as in cues 9 and 9.5. It is hard to see in the video, but I had side lights with star gobos and deep purple gels in theme to add to the aspect of being in space.
